Hotel Blue Lake: Great Budget Hotel at Pokhara’s Lakeside
Pokhara is one of Nepal’s most scenic cities, but surprisingly it is also one of the cheapest cities in this part of the world. It is a great city for family travelers, traveling couples, backpackers and solo travelers. I stayed here for 5 days and 5 nights at a place called Hotel Blue Lake and the below review is based on this recent experience of mine.
1) For 500 Nepali rupees or roughly 300 Indian rupees, I got a double room (fan cooled) with an attached bathroom and a television. The room even came with a view. May be, it was low season, but I was told that prices do not increase by too much during the peak tourist season. The room was very clean and airy.
2) The place is clean and run by efficient staff, who are very helpful in guiding you to the right places.
3) The hotel is located on the Phewa lakeside area and is very close to all restaurants, bars, coffee shops, tour operators, travel agencies, ATMs, bus station, etc. Proximity is the name of the game here.
4) The hotel has free wi-fi and the speeds are fairly decent.
5) During electricity outages, only one light in the room works. This can be a problem during the days, but the nights are very pleasant.
6) If you hire a motorcycle or a car for your sightseeing, you can opt to park at the hotel’s own private parking space.
7) The hotel has an in-house restaurant, but I never got the opportunity to try them out.
8) The hotel runs its own travel agency and can book tours and tickets for you.
9) The hot water in the bathroom functions on solar energy. Hence, if Pokhara gets too cloudy, you might not get hot water. Instead, you will have to make do with cold showers like how I did.
10) The hotel is very safe even though there are no locker facilities and is surprisingly very quiet in the night even though it is located on the main road.
There are a lot of budget options available in Pokhara’s lakeside, but after looking up many smelly places, I finally landed here. Thankfully, I liked it and ended up staying for 5 days. If you are looking for a budget stay option in Pokhara, you can look this place up.
