Malang: The Scenic East Java Town
A lot of tourists coming to Indonesia visit the famous Bromo volcano, but give the nearby town of Malang a miss. This town located in East Java is known for its colonial history and cool climes. It is unbelievably green, has some well maintained boulevards, a lot of museums and some fantastic East Javanese food. Unlike the other busy cities of Java, Malang has a more laid back feel. It’s mornings and late evenings are always nippy and like most of Java, Malang is also prone to heavy afternoon showers every day.
If you have time on your hand, I would recommend you base yourself in Malang for at least a week and explore the town’s attractions, while doing day trips to the mountains and apple orchards of Batu, the volcanoes at Bromo-Tenegger-Semeru National Park and the quiet beaches of Balekampang. And as you spend more time here, you will definitely start feeling this place more and get to know its people better.
