Faces of Bayon

The Angkor Archaeological Park of Cambodia is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it lives up to that tag with its aura, unbelievable carvings, size and imagination. Angkor Wat is the most famous temple in this park, but the Bayon Temple is may be as popular. The temple is famous for its faces. It has 216 of them carved on 56 towers, each tower having 4 faces. The temple is massive and so are the towers and the faces. Everywhere that I turned into the temple, I was awed by these faces. Some of them were smiling. Some of them had a neutral expression and the others had a calm look. The other parts of the temple were beautiful and richly carved too, but the faces had so much appeal that the first time I went there, I just watched the faces.

Here are those mind numbing faces of Bayon. Take a look.

  2. Oh yeah Anu, the feeling of seeing them in real is something else. The place is so good that I doubt if I will ever get bored of this place.
