Cape Gul Juea: A panoramic view in Koh Tao, Thailand
Cape Gul Juea view point is one of the southern most points on the Koh Tao island and it is known for its sensational views of the Chalok Baan Kao beach and bay and the islands of Koh Pha ngan and Koh Samui that are visible in the background on a clear day.
You can either enjoy this view by staying at the view point resort or you can walk from the Chalok Baan Kao village like how I did. The way is fairly easy, though there is no one direct track. Here goes the complete set of directions for those interested in walking to this place.
From the Chalok Baan Kao village, walk towards the 7-11 store and then to the Buddha view resort. From here, walk on the Chalok Baan Kao beach till you see the small bridge. Climb the bridge and cross Taraporn and Babalooa to reach the View Point resort. It is here that you need to ask someone for directions as the way is quite crooked, though the thumb rule is you have to climb up and stay to your left.
One you reach the top, you will find 2 view points. One that offers stunning views of the entire Chalok Baan Kao bay, the beach and all of the beach facing properties and the other view that is even more sensational and is located at cliff’s edge and one that looks into the open ocean.
It is this open ocean view that is special as near the cliff the entire water is emerald green and in the background, the water is blue and if you look even further, you can see silhouettes of the islands of Koh Pha ngan and Koh Samui in the distance.
Just sitting on cliff’s edge and staring at the wide open seas is in itself a surreal experience. This place is ideal around sunset to get the golden hues or during mid day as this accentuates the emerald colors of the shallow reef waters.
