Loved Canon’s Service
Yesterday, my camera (Canon 7D) threw an Error 30 at me and shut off. I had to remove the batteries and wait for a while before it restarted. This was a first for me and hence I checked the online forums for advise. It was here that I found out that this error is because of a mechanical failure mainly related to the camera’s shutter. This blew whistles in my head as the last thing I needed before my trip was a camera failure. Initially, I debated taking the risk and taking the camera in its current state on my trip, but then I figured out that a camera failure on the trip would put some stress on the planning.
Finally, better sense prevailed and I decided to give it for service to the Canon service center. But, when I called them I got a shocker that the minimum time for repairing non-warranty repairs is 1 week and I didn’t have that kind of time. Hence, I called up the folks at Canon, explained them my case and asked them to help me out. They agreed to solve my issue within 3 working days.
In line with that conversation, I dropped my camera this morning at the Canon service center on Brigade road, Bangalore. After an initial inspection, it was found that the shutter was giving trouble. Shortly, I left with an estimate of INR 6,500. I reached home just before lunch and at 4 pm, the folks at Canon called me and told me that my camera was ready. They had replaced the shutter and a PCB (Power Control Board) assembly and the cost of repair including parts and service equated to INR 11,700.
I was stunned!! Not at the price, but at the extremely fast level of service meted out to me by Canon. When I did reach the Canon service center earlier this evening, I was super happy to see a full functional camera. There was a small dent to my wallet, but given that this was the first repair on my camera in 31 months, I didn’t mind the dent. After all, I have really made ‘paisa vasool’ with my camera.
Thank you to the entire Canon India team for providing such exceptional service to me. I am truly happy and cannot explain ho much I appreciate your help.
