Green- billed Malkoha from Nameri National Park

This was the first time I spotted this bird that appears in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, IUCN 2006. The green-billed malkoha, unlike other birds is not very pretty, but instead scary.


Its sharp beak, fiery red eyes and its bluish black coat provides it with this menacing look. It is found in dry scrub and thin forests across Peninsular and North East India.


I spotted this bird during one of my jungle birding treks at Nameri National Park in Assam, India.

    I had to peer to see the bird clearly. How on earth did u spot it in the wild??????

    I guess there was some kind of movement, but overall I guess I get lucky at times...
