Purple Flowers (Tibouchina urvilleana) from Sikkim

I saw these very pretty looking purple flowers while walking through the Himalayan Zoological Park at Bulbulay, near Gangtok in Sikkim.

Everything about them seemed to ooze beauty. In fact, they looked as exotic as an orchid to me.

I am not sure if this is a common flower or if it is a Himalayan variety? Anybody knows its name? Thanks to Revathy for identifying these flowers as Tibouchina urvilleana.

And this flower offered me the first opportunity to test my new 100-400 telephoto lens.

Initially, got slight camera shakes, but once I got adjusted to the additional weight, it was like a dream come true. What do you think of these photos?
