White Plumeria Flowers from Tranquebar

These flowers are an exotic tropical variety. Right from the Pacific Islands, Caribbean, Polynesian Islands to the South and South East Asian tropical islands, they occupy an important place in the flower kingdom.

In India, it is locally known as Champa phool and world over as Plumeria. I spotted these flowers, the White Plumeria variety at Tranquebar on the east coast of Tamil Nadu.

They were in full bloom in the gardens of ‘Bungalow on the Beach’, a Neemrana property at Tranquebar.

I used to spot these flowers quite frequently during my childhood days spent in the eastern half of India. I remember I was told by my mother not to pluck these flowers as their sap causes itching. Hence, it was great to see these flowers in bloom after such a long time and this time around I kept a good distance from them.
