Pondicherry and French cuisine are synonymous with each other, but if you want a classic French experience, then drop by Le Club.
Le Club is a garden restaurant situated in the French half of Pondicherry.
It is located right opposite Alliance Francaise on Rue Dumas street that runs parallel to the Pondicherry marine drive or beach road.
This garden restaurant promises to serve French, Italian, Indian and South-Asian food, but their speciality is French food.
They are also well known in Pondicherry for their exotic wine collection. It is said that they stack most of the famous brands of French wines in their wine cellar at all times.
Additionally, they stack most of the French liquor and liqueur brands. One can get a good idea about their bar capability by just looking at the bar shelves that run adjacent to the kitchen.
Their colourful bar carries all popular brands (French and non-French) be it scotch, champagne, wine, rum, vodka, whiskey, single malt, and others.
Coming back to food…Le Club has a fairly straight forward menu. The options are standard options, but you can check with the Chef if you are interested in something different or if you want to taste the chef’s special.
They also run a daily special of fresh catch from the sea. Their entire menu is cooked in traditional French style and if you need to satisfy your spicy Indian palate, then you need to inform about your spice requirements while placing your order. Else, you will end up with a bland dish (according to Indian standards).
The restaurant in itself has a very relaxed ambience and a traditional outlook. If you are the kind who explores, then you will find a lot of history and culture associated with this restaurant. The building in which the restaurant is housed is built in French style and carries memoirs from yester years in the form of paintings, photographs, interiors and furniture.
I have personally been to the Le Club restaurant and based on my experience, I would recommend this place with two thumbs up.
