Coonoor’s Local Flavour at Hotel Ramachandra
As a traveller, it is best to taste the local food at the best local joint, though not necessarily with the best facilities. Such a place allows you to get a true taste of the local flavour. Generally, such joints are hardly known to the outside world or the internet. Only the locals are aware of these and hence such information can be only found while interacting with a native of that town.
Last weekend I was at the hill station of Coonoor that is tucked in the shadow of the Dodda Betta in the Nilgiris. After a lot of interactions with the locals, I found out that the most famous local joint at Coonoor is Hotel Ramachandra.
This hotel Ramachandra is situated about five minutes walk away from the Coonoor municipal bus stand. The place is fairly clean and decent and has operations across two floors. The ground floor serves only vegetarian food while the first floor serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare.
I tried out the South Indian meals which tasted really good. Each dish had a unique taste and fragrance to it. My friends tried out Kheema Parota, Nilgiri Chicken, Chicken Chettinad, Ceylon Parota and Kerala Parota and were extremely pleased with their choices. And all these at very reasonable prices. In fact, four of us ate to our heart’s fill and the bill came to just over 300 rupees.
Do give this place a try if you happen to be at Coonoor and wish to taste good local food at a clean place.
