American License Plates in a French Restaurant!

I was totally baffled when I saw these American License (Registration) plates hanging on the walls of a French restaurant in Pondicherry.


They were totally out of place, but I guess that was intention of the hotel interior designers. But, even then, the idea totally and truly beats me.
