Vizag’s Beach Line from Kailashgiri!

Vizag’s 40 kilometre long marine drive has umpteen attractions for the tourist. A short ascent, say 4 kilometres towards the hilly side from the marine drive leads you to Kailashgiri, a Shiva temple on top of a hill.

This place has been here for a long time, but 4 years back, the government paved proper roads to lead to the top, thus making it more accessible. From the top, one gets stunning views of the Vishakhapatnam beach line and of the marine drive too.

The view towers provide un-obstructed views of nature at its very best. The green Eastern Ghats on one side, the marine drive in the middle and the Bay of Bengal on the far right is simply an amazing sight.

  1. Oh I see, a marine drive has also come up. It looks really breath taking. I never had any idea of a beach there. Kindly expand the name to Visakhapatnam as Vizag is relatively less known.

  3. Yes, there was no marine drive when I used to live here in the mid 1980's. All these are new additions to the cityscape. The beaches always existed, just that they were not promoted as tourist destinations. The entire marine drive has some 10 different beaches as far as I know.

Oh you think Vizag is not well known. Surprising, coz when I used to live there, people used to refer it as Vizag and not Visakhapatnam. Locals refer to it as Vizag.

  5. Yes, Vizag is the name referred to by the Andhraites. Your blog is in the internet OK, You want people from across the world to view that. They do not know where Vizag is. Kindly try to amend not to defend.

  6. I guess that is your opinion. I just did a online search for Vizag versus Visakhapatnam and found more entries for Vizag. This shows that Vizag is more popular a term on the internet than the other.

Anyways, irrespective of the argument, the name 'Vizag' will stay on my blog as it is my perspective and opinion.

However, I do appreciate and respect your feedback.

  7. It seems as if I am arguing with my son. What prevents you stating "also known as Visakhapatnam"

  8. Right from the start, I have used these terms inter-changeably in the post content and have mentioned both names in the labels/tags.

However, I will be unable to use 'aka Vishakapatnam..' bcos of 2 reasons: 1) it takes too much space...2)I trust my decision
