Charminar – The Wonder of Hyderabad!!
When one thinks of Hyderabad, there are two things that immediately comes to mind. One is ‘Hyderabadi Biryani’ and the other is ‘Charminar’.
Set amidst the bustling streets of Hyderabad, Charminar is one of the most important landmarks of Hyderabad. To be precise, this is is where the city of Hyderabad found its roots.
This architectural marvel, built in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, stands tall and elegant amidst the crowded streets and the colourful bazaars.
Going back into history, this Islamic monument, was built to commemorate the elimination of a plague epidemic from the city. It is a four storey structure with a mosque on the top floor.
Its four minarets, its clock, its intricate Islamic style design and all its carvings are a treat to the eye. This monument overlooks the Makkah Masjid, an important Muslim shrine and a very beautiful mosque.
Since a photo shoot engagement brought me here, I was left with little time to admire this grand monument. I hope to visit this place sometime again in the near future and explore it completely at leisure. It definitely deserves multiple visits.
