Most tourists go to Baratang Island for its limestone caves, mud volcanoes and to see its native Jarwa Tribes. But, the thing that captures people’s imagination the most is its extensively dense forest cover.
The entire island is symbolic of its tall and evergreen trees. They really look dense from outside, but from inside these forests, it is very close to darkness and that too in broad daylight.
All around the island and across its perimeter with the waterway, tropical rainforests and mangrove forests grow hand in hand with each other. Together, they form a beautiful co-existence.
This dense green cover is extremely relaxing to one’s tired eyes and thankfully, owing to its remoteness and its significance as a Andaman forest division, these trees have withstood the human invasion till date. Let’s hope that this happy saga continues…
