Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park, WA, USA
Hoh Rainforest located in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State is a must visit destination. These rare breed of temperate rainforests offer an unparalleled trekking and nature experience.
I was trekking through the Hoh rain forest one summer and the colours that it had donned at that time is beyond words. The trees here. which receive heavy rainfall and snowfall throughout the year, defy all senses of size as each one of them tries to outdo the other both in terms of height and girth in a bid to secure the maximum sunshine for food production.
The trekking lover will absolutely love this place with its deep woods at the lower altitudes to the ridges, snow capped peaks and glaciers at higher elevation. The Hoh rainforest offers a lot of trekking/hiking trails for the nature lover, but the one that most passionate trekkers go on is the one that leads them to Mount Olympus and its glaciers.
There are some stretches in this rainforest where one needs artificial sources of light to navigate and that too in broad daylight. The moss, ferns, fungi and parasites that live on these massive trees make for an exciting sight.
Hoh will always remain on my top trekking destinations.
