Even before I had stepped anywhere close to the Radhanagar Beach at Havelock Island, I had been informed about its legendary status. And, when I did step on the beach the first time, I was indeed spellbound and continued to be so every other time I laid my feet here.
No wonder it has been voted as Asia’s No. 1 Beach. Some even say that it is the World’s No. 3 Beach.

Postcard View of Radhanagar Beach, Havelock Island, Andamans, India
The Secluded Elephant Beach of Havelock Island
Located at one remote corner of Havelock Island is Elephant Beach. One has to take a boat or go on a steep, but short trek to reach this desolate beach. But, once you have reached this beach, it is difficult to coax yourself to move out. Such is the pristine beauty of this place.
The inner reaches of this beach are made up of mangrove forests and slush, but the side close to the water is a sight to behold.
The sapphire coloured waters, the gentle waves, the bare trees, the vast horizon and the sense of being alone amidst this rapidly changing nature truly intoxicates one’s soul.
Jolly Buoy Island – Coral Paradise in the Andamans
Tucked away from civilization in the Mahatma Gandhi National Park is the coral island of Jolly Buoy.
The island, in itself is pretty small. One can walk round its perimeter in less than an hour. But, don’t be fooled by such small metrics as this place is ultimately rich in marine life and coral reefs.
Below the emerald waters, a very colourful world of corals and its denizens awaits us. Snorkelling in these waters is a great way of finding this out. Even better if you don your scuba diving gear.
In sum, a true coral paradise in the Andamans and one should congratulate the Marine National park management for maintaining its perfect health.

Seashells thrive in the ecosystem around Elephant Beach, Havelock Island
A short trek through the tropical forests of Havelock Island leads one to the mangrove settlement of Elephant Beach. This is where one has to watch their step as the entire place is literally swarming with sea shells.
After walking through the mangrove slush, one finally arrives at the golden sands of the super secluded Elephant Beach. But, the movement of the sea shells continues even in the golden sands here.
The sea shells come in all shapes, colours and sizes. I have seen various live sea shells during my marine adventures, but, this was my first experience of sighting a conch shell, a very rare sight indeed.
It is very heartening to note that such near perfect ecosystems still survive and thus allowing some rare species to establish themselves here. Hope this ecosystem stays this way for many more years to come.

Asia’s No.1 Beach at a glance!
It was a colourful setting one evening at Asia’s No.1 Beach. With each passing minute, the sky and the entire beach below it changed colours. To a traveller like me, it looked like the beach kept changing its moods.
This beach is the pride of the Andamans and can be found at Havelock Island. It is titled “Radhanagar Beach” or “Beach No. 7”.
