We got into the emerald waters of the Kavaratti lagoon, but only to board a boat that would take us deep into the rich coral reef waters.
The agenda was to go snorkelling and explore the rich coral reefs and the marine life in the lagoon.
Soon, the boat left the beach and headed towards deeper waters in this shallow lagoon. While we were on the boat, the Lakshadweep Tourism personnel gave basic snorkelling classes to the group. Soon, with masks, snorkels and fins, we jumped into the water.
It was phenomenal inside the water, where I was able to view a total new world. There were vibrant colours everywhere. The plants on the corals, the fishes that came in various shapes, sizes and colours, the clear waters and the excellent visibility all led to an excellent snorkelling experience.
It was only after an hour that we got ourselves out of the water and into the boat. Only when I got back into the boat did I realize the amazing sight in front of me. Crystal clear emerald waters in the foreground and the lovely stretch of silver sands and the Kavaratti island in the background.
ahh! amazingly blue waters!
ReplyDeleteahh! amazingly blue waters!
ReplyDeleteActually they are emerald in colour as the waters are shallow and extremely clear....
ReplyDeletewow! really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am going green and blue with envy!! Snorkeling is my most favorite water sport and it has been ages since I did that.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to go to Lakshadweep for months now, but is so damn expensive to get there!!
Beautiful snaps of the waters
LOL! Vamsee - I don't know what you will do if I tell you I spent 4 weeks diving, snorkeling and fishing in the waters of Lakshadweep and Andamans!! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is not really expensive to goto Laca...Cruise is the cheapest option, though, one can take the flight to Agatti (which is a touch expensive) and then stay at Kadmat Island (which is on par with Agatti and Bangaram) for 4.5K per night per couple incl of food.
Agatti and Bangaram are privately owned islands and hence expensive. Plus Bangaram is the only island to have liquor permit and hence expensive again.
Kadmat is beautiful, and the cottages run by SPORTS are present on the narrow side of the island....one can see the sea on either side from these cottages...the pine trees, the hammocks, the huts, et al are all fabulous...More on this on my post on Kadmat.
Thank you Anu!!

I have a question about Snorkeling, Can we do it even if I don't know swimming?
ReplyDeleteYes, as long as you trust your life jacket and if you are in open ocean, hold onto a rope that is tied to your boat. Remember to let all your fear out and trust your life jacket. In summary, for snorkelling you dont need to know swimming.
