Emerald Waters of Kavaratti, Lakshadweep Islands, India

The cruise liner had been anchored off the coast of Kavaratti for over four hours.

We needed small boats to ferry us to the Kavaratti island over the shallow coral reef waters. But,  unfortunately for the entire tourist population on the ship, the local fishermen had called in a strike and this created a painfully long wait.

Finally at about 9 in the morning, we heard that the fishermen had called off their strike and that their boats were headed our direction.

The time had finally come! And to put all our frustration at ease, we were captivated by the beautiful emerald waters of the Kavaratti Lagoon. The colours were such a refreshing sight!!

As we got closer to the island, we noticed how clear the waters were. The water was so clear that we even spotted a couple of turtles rushing past our boat. And, as  we got even closer, we could spot the silver stretch of beach that was glimmering in the morning sun.

I was just itching to get my feet on these silver sands and get into these emerald waters!!
