Young Buddhist Monks undergo Lama Dance Training at Lingdum Monastery, Sikkim, India

It was such an interesting experience to see young Buddhist Monks practice the Lama Dance during my recent trip to the Lingdum Monastery in the Himalayan state of Sikkim in India.

The Lama dance is a popular dance performed in the Buddhist monasteries. It is a festive mask dance performed annually before Losar, the Tibetan New Year. Lama dance is an inherent part of the prayer meeting and is not played on its own as a form of entertainment.

Since these were young Buddhist monks, it looked like they were just learning the tricks of the trade. But, the ten to fifteen minutes that I spent watching them was an educational experience.
