Cafe Mocha – A Stroll in a coffee estate at Kutta in Coorg, Karnataka, India
I have been to Coorg many a time, but I had never bothered to take a walk into the lovely green coffee estates that makes Coorg such an exotic destination and a tropical hotspot.
Hence, one weekend, I decided to do just this when I booked myself into the lovely coffee estate property owned by the recommended Serene Home Stay. This property, spread over 50 acres is located in the small village of Poojakal of Kutta Post in Coorg bordering the Nagarhole National Park.
The property is set against the Brahmagiri hills and has lush plantations of all kinds. They even have their own stream!!
It was late afternoon by the time I reached Kutta after a 6 hour motorcycle ride from Bangalore. After being treated to a sumptuous meal at the Serene Home Stay, I proceeded to the Irpu Falls, a famous waterfall and tourist destination in Coorg that is located about 11 kms from this home stay.
The entrance to the waterfall has a temple dedicated to Ram and Laxman and this is also the starting point for the treks into the Brahmagiri Hills and Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Irpu waterfalls itself was a great sight with tons of water thundering down thanks to the recent rainfall. A bath under the thunder was even better. It seemed to ooze every bit of pain and tension from my tired limbs.
I spent the entire next day just walking through the 50 acre plantation and discovering the beauty of agriculture. First, since this climate and soil is conducive to coffee growing, the bulk of the area was occupied by coffee plantations.
But, interspersed amidst the coffee plantations were a variety of spices, fruits and exotic herbs that included black pepper, vanilla, betel nuts, papaya, jack fruit, guava, green chillies, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, goose berry, rice, coconut and citrus fruits.
The experience was such a delight and coupled with the excellent dining opportunity provided by Serene Home Stay, my weekend was a very happy blur!
